Embryo donation

When it comes to building a family with the help of reproductive technologies, embryo donation and embryo adoption process are two different paths.

Embryo donation is an excellent way to expand your family if you are having difficulty conceiving using your own eggs and sperm. A couple may achieve live birth within the minimum amount of time.

Understanding the differences between adoption and embryo donation will help make an informed decision.

From a legal point of view, adoption and donation of blastocysts are two different procedures. In Russia, embryo donation can be accessed freely by those who have a set of indications towards such treatment. It is easy to formalize a safe transfer of embryos created from donor egg and sperm.

Origin of embryos

Donor embryos are created in donor IVF procedures. Using them does not impose any obligations or legal complications.

Donation process

Embryo donation eliminates compromises in the process of medical examination of donors. All NGC's donors are thoroughly screened.

The role of reproductive centers

We will book a donor embryo from our database for you, help arrange your visit to the clinic and manage endometrium preparation remotely.

In its turn, using embryos that are no longer needed by other IVF patients is what is called embryo adoption. The process is very complicated and currently isn’t available in Russia. NGC doesn’t offer embryo remainders to its new patients.

Why using a donor embryo is an easy way forward

  • Free access NGC’s broad donor database where you can select an embryo according to your personal preferences;

  • All donors have proven fertility and pass genetic screening;

  • High success rates in programs with PGT-a of embryos;

  • The program is more affordable than regular IVF attempt or double donor program: a single cycle with a genetically tested donor embryo costs 3 850 EUR;

  • There are no hidden legal requirements to pay attention to;

  • Preparation of the uterus for embryo transfer can be started in your local clinic.

How to choose an embryo for donation

When making a decision, be sure to take into account any nuances that matter to you personally. These can include blood type and phenotype of the donors, their level of education etc.

At NGC, you will find more than 700 true donor profiles to choose from. Our easy-to-use search form allows viewing donors who can become a good match.

Contact NGC for advice and assistance. We will help you book an embryo. If necessary, a double donor program can be arranged where you will be in control of the process and choose both egg and sperm donor yourself. This type of program is especially suitable if you aim to have more than 1 child. Our team always makes sure that the donors who will donate their embryos are top-notch candidates.

Legal Status of Embryos in Donation

The process involves the donor and the recipient. Donors provide (donate) their gametes voluntarily and have no parental rights after a baby is born. Donor embryos are considered to be patient’s property after they have been booked for future use. The transfer of donor embryos occurs within the framework of a legal agreement that protects the rights of the patient and explains all stages of treatment. After signing the agreement, the frozen embryo fully becomes the property of the recipient. There are no other specific laws regarding embryo donation.

Emotional and social difficulties of adoption

Adoptive parents should be prepared for the fact that the child may face emotional difficulties after learning about their origins. It is very important to start preparing from the early years to save them from possibly developing depression later in life. Consult with psychologists and choose an acceptable, simple and understandable way of conveying information to the baby. Learning the truth in a comfortable and controlled environment is really important and will help avoid serious stress.

How to help make the right decision

When deciding what is better - embryo donation or adoption, consult with NGC clinic specialists and weigh your options. We at NGC believe that choosing an embryo from certified donors is very reasonable and straightforward:

  • It ensures standardized medical approach to donor selection and screenings

  • Detailed donor profiles with pictures are available for your review
